Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences

A Message from Head of Department

Political science and public administration is a discipline attempting to understand and investigate political institutions, political actors, and decision-making mechanisms. In this context, its content includes not only observable terms and concepts concerning states and governmental structure, local, national and international institutions, cities, environment, political parties and non-governmental organizations but also abstract realities such as power, legitimacy, democracy, justice, equality and freedom. Political science and public administration cooperates with and benefit from other disciplines of social sciences including sociology, philosophy, history, economics and law.

This cooperation stipulates extensive variation of courses in the curriculum of political science and public administration. Basic courses of the department reflect the fields of political science, public administration, urban and environmental studies as well as other political and social sciences. Students participating our program are expected to achieve a desired level of competence in these respected fields. In the context of Erasmus student exchange programs, students of our department are able to share their knowledge and skills with their fellow students from different departments in Europe. Our students are also invited to work at student clubs in order to improve their theoretical and practical knowledge.

Benefitting from multidisciplinary features of the department, our graduates work at both public and private sectors; furthermore they may find career opportunities at non-governmental organizations, which are generally considered as the third sector. Our graduates work at financial organizations, banks and corporations and several public institutions as inspectors, high-level managers and administrations. They also have chances to apply several vacancies and work as district governors and administrative judges. The language of instruction at our department is English and preparatory class is compulsory. This definitely paves the way for our graduates to find employment opportunities on the international scale.

The mission of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration is to train graduates, who have expertise on concepts and terms of political science and public administration that are necessary to work on both national and international level. Our graduates are also expected to think simultaneously local and global as a result of their advanced English, to represent themselves and their profession as well as possible with their adopted values of contemporary knowledge, skills and abilities concerning leadership and innovation and respect for ethics and universal values of humanity.
